Nowhere Game

Director: John Hughes, Martyn Goddard
Year: 1972
Duration: 26 mins

Nowhere Game is a ‘Cinema Verite’ account of illicit drug use in Melbourne’s inner city; a critical response to the dominant media sensationalism of the early 1970s. The film argues in favour of a social policy toward illicit drug use that is now known as ‘harm reduction’; illicit drug use and addiction is better treated as a health issue than a criminal one. At the time the film was made this was a radical idea. The film was made in collaboration with Rod Patterson and the Bouyancy Foundation in Melbourne.
